Description
American alligator lurking deep in the shadows of the Florida marsh. Covered in leaves, twigs and duckweed, this was all that was visible and had not someone pointed him out to us, we would have probably walked right past at about 8-10 away. Although not really interested in us, this gator was watching us. You can see the reflection of where we were in it's eye. Also, if you look really close there is the reflection of his eye in the water.
Despite rumors, gators while they can move very quickly, land travel is not their forte. They are heavy, drag a very long solid muscle tail and have short stubbing legs. However in the water, that tail moves them silently and with great speed as it approaches it's victims who are usually unaware as it swims just below the surface. Had we stepped into the water.....
