Description
This stately bull giraffe slowly sauntered past our jeep within inches. We were on the road and he was intent on walking by. He was magnificent! This is our our safari in South Africa began.
A male giraffe can be as much as 18 feet tall and can weigh as much as 3000 lbs or 1360 kilograms. I guess this goes without saying, giraffes are the tallest living animal on earth. Their neck alone can be 6 feet long and weigh 600 lbs. They have a tongue about 2 feet long and they are large hearted. How about 25 lbs.
A giraffe only sleeps about 20 minutes a day taken in very short minutes long stints. Most of their day is spent being alert to the approach of predators. This male had some very large scars on his hind end, though healed it was still literally missing hide. Nevertheless he was graceful and magnificent.
This dramatic portrait comes as large as nearly 48 X 72, truly a statement piece.
