Description
Sunrise over Lake Mamie one of the Mammoth Lakes in California reflects the spectacular Crystal Crag an icon towering over the Old Mammoth valley below. The morning air was still leaving an almost glassy finish across Lake Mamie.
This where I grew up. Stunning landscapes in all directions. Mammoth Lakes is nestled in the breathtaking Sierra Nevadas. Often difficult winters of snow 10-20 feet high always lead to peaceful summers like this.
Mammoth Lakes is the home of the premier ski resort in the western United States, Mammoth Mountain. When I was a kid, Mammoth was known for it's skiing, and it was quiet in the summer. Today Mammoth is an all season resort town. What serves for skiing/snowboarding in the winter, becomes epic mountain biking in the spring, summer and fall. You can camp all along of the waters edge of most of Mammoth 5 lakes and each is beautiful in a different way.
Just behind us across the road, Lake Mamie spills down a waterfall into one of the Twin Lakes below. From that vantage point you see down to both of the Twin Lakes in on to the valley below. Pretty impressive.
