Photographing White Sands National Monument has always been beyond unique, but in 2020 like just about everything else, this time was really different. I was so upset when we arrived, the landscape was absolutely blanketed with smoke courtesy of the worst California fire season in modern history. We only had one evening there and we came just so that I could photograph White Sands one more time. What I had wanted most was to capture the sun setting over these pristine white sand dunes.
I sat in the sand high atop a tall white dune facing the sunset. It was quiet, and thankfully the heat of the summer day had cooled down. It was ethereal. The colors began to develop into variations of purple, orange and pink. Through the smoke the colors were so soft. It was gorgeous. This image perfectly captures the beauty in some strange sort of way. Out of such loss came this beautiful scene 100s of miles away in another state altogether.

In a world filled with constant noise & distractions, I find solace in the simple things in life & the unspoiled beauty of nature. A way to connect with the Earth and find inner peace. I hope to leave behind a legacy of my love for nature through my photography, hoping to inspire others to find their own sense of solitude in the beauty of the world that surrounds them. Through my art, I invite you to slow down, breathe in the simple beauty and recognize the deep sense of tranquility that the natural world offers. This is your invitation to make those connections, and in doing so find a deeper sense of peace & purpose in life. My Website I work with my husband Timo, traveling and photographing our journey along the way....
