Description
The male Florida Green Iguana or the American Iguana is not always green and isn't really native to Florida. In fact the green iguana is considered invasive. I rather like them, I think they can look like a living breathing mosaic. I do understand the problem with the green iguana though. While mostly herbivores, during the Spring, they will invade nests from almost any egg bearing creature and consume the eggs. From birds, to turtles and even other lizards.
During mating season the males are spectacular in color. There scales, especially on their heads look like neatly places stones in a beautiful mosaic. Their colors are vibrant, usually in bright oranges and blues. This handsome fellow was quite large, probably about 4 and a half feet tip to tip weighing as much as 17 lbs.
