Description
It had been awhile since I got up early to shoot the sunrise over the Atlantic in Florida. I jumped out of bed, grabbed my gear and got in my car. My car was a little wet, but it's Florida, it can sprinkle and then be sunny in minutes, not a big deal. It hadn't rained in weeks so I didn't even think to check the weather. It was still dark when I arrived at my location the beach, the Atlantic side of Florida.
Got out my camera & tripod, with a little bit of mist falling I put my camera under my windbreaker. As the sun began to rise on the horizon, I could begin to see that this was a real storm, not just some misty morning. I snapped a few pics and then was forced to run for shelter because I was not prepared for rain and it rained hard, with wind blowing the water sideways, so even under the shelter I was getting wet and cold. There was a small break between rain bands and I ran back down to the beach as the sun was trying to break through the clouds. Ominous black clouds to the north and bands of rain lit up by the rising sun. It was spectacular. I was barefoot and freezing. I walked down to the waters edge to find the water was warmer than the outside air. I didn't stay too long, but I was very happy with the images I came back with.

Wow! Really a spectacular image, Rebecca! Definitely not what you had anticipated - but as you indicated - it is Florida! Glad to see you didn't waste your time - even though the weather was far from ideal! You know, the white of the wave really "pops" out from the dark background! Very cool! Congratulations! Your amazing image has been featured on the "Environmental Art - Specifically Ocean Conservation" home page! Thank you for your participation in this group!
