Description
With hundreds of cisterns under the city of Istanbul, Turkey, the Basilica Cistern is the largest and most spectacular of them all. Built in the 6th century during the Byzantine era.
Enormous in size, the cistern is capable of holding nearly 3 million cubic feet of water. The marble columns which are 16 feet apart, stand 30 feet tall.
Today there are several modern art pieces placed throughout and the cistern is softly lit in changing colors. The Basilica Cistern was seen in another James Bond movie, "From Russia With Love".
