Description
We were making our way across the US from Florida to the west. Our first stop was in Jacksonville, Florida. I had seen pictures of the Jacksonville nightlights with a beautiful reflection of the cityscape on the water and I wanted to see it and photograph it for myself.
You might think photography is a glamorous job, but honestly it can be difficult much of the time. Patience is important because there is often lot of waiting to contend with. We just needed to wait for it to get dark to capture this scene and we did that while eating sushi.
The difficult part was the heat and humidity that Florida is known for. It was about 9:00 PM, it had rained earlier and it was close to 90 degrees. The humidity was suffocating. We walked the distance of the River Walk to get to the location we had scoped out earlier. It must have been cooler in the afternoon. I don't think the camera equipment is that heavy, but the sweat poured off of us.
Long story short, by the time we finished shooting the beautiful Jacksonville skyline, I was drenched. My view finder was steaming up and there was sweat dripping from my eyelashes. Not a pretty sight walking back into the hotel.
Was it worth it? You bet! I love the way this image turned out. I love the beam of light shinning into the cloud above and all purple and blue reflecting on the water.
