A Little Blue Heron is on the smaller size compared to other herons. In the right light their coloring is somewhat purple and a dark slate blue. A young juvenile little blue heron is entirely white and goes through a mottled phase of white, blue and purple as their feathers begin to change. Little blue herons are waders as the slowly walk along the waters edge and amongst the tall grass in the shallow waters of the wetlands. They move extremely slow, watching and waiting for that little morsel or fish. They tend to stay in smaller groups along the quieter waters of the marsh, tidal flats, streams and estuaries. This Little Blue heron was captured by my husband and photography buddy, Timo Herranen.
