Description
The Prairie Smoke Wildflower swaying gently in the breeze. It always surprises me when people think of New Mexico as just desert. Honestly though I don't think I have seen prettier wildflowers growing anywhere than I have in New Mexico.
The Prairie Smoke is really a flower, also known as Old Man's Beard and Geum triflorum. They grow all over North America. You may have never noticed them before as I never had. The feathery looks happens once the flower has been pollinated, before that they are rather all clumped together.
Native Americans made tea from them and some tribes used them to treat tuberculosis.
