Description
The American Alligator is only found in the southern United States. Through some parts of Texas and over to Florida. This gator prefers fresh water and is usually found in the wetlands but can tolerate some salt water and can be found in areas with brackish water. Often they will live side by side (not really side by side, but you get my drift) with crocodiles. Spending most of their time in the water, they are very adept swimmers and can swim upwards of 20+ mph. They can also move pretty fast on land, but are a bit more clumsy there and don't have much endurance.

Oh, what a sight to see while splashing about the pond. A most excellent capture.
Rebecca Herranen replied:
Thank you! But heck no, no one who is sane splashes around in any body of water in Florida. There are gators everywhere and we have watched them submerge right below us, inches below the surface and you can't see them. Wouldn't even dangle my toes in. Somehow drop my camera in.....bye-bye.

I think your view of this gator suggests you might have been in a boat? Nicely photographed!
Rebecca Herranen replied:
Thanks, but no boat, but there is a lovely wood walkway all through the wetlands. It give fabulous views of so much wildlife.
