Description
This little sandhill crane baby is the absolute cutest of all the baby birds I have ever seen. Actually a sandhill crane chick is known as a colt because they have such long legs. His or hers parents will mate for life and are incredible parents. Often we captured the two of them walking side by side with there little pride and joy between them.
This little family was very cautious of us at first as we just stood back and watched them. Eventually we came to a spot on the very narrow path where the family had found a delicious collection of tiny eggs and was very focused on their breakfast. We were ready to move on and had to pass them. We moved by very slowly, passing the father who was about 3 feet tall. He was watchful, but calm.
We encountered them on the road shortly thereafter, only this time they walked up to us and literally the 3 foot tall male walked between myself and my husband and the mom with her chick, just to my left. They gave us such a fabulous opportunity to photograph their beautiful little family,
I think this sandhill crane baby portrait would be beautiful in the nursery of any bird or wildlife lover. Precious.
