This is a superb photo, Rebecca. The areas of contrast between the soft leaves and dramatic, dark trunk and branches is stunning.

In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS! And consider adding your image to DISCUSSIONS "Please post your featured photograph here" for greater, long-lasting visibility.

Artist's Description

Santa Fe and all around New Mexico, cottonwood trees are everywhere. In the Fall they turn brilliant yellow and orange, making for a fantastic black and white infrared image. In New Mexico Autumn is quickly followed by winter and trees lose their leaves rapidly, so the season is over fast, so you need to be fast too if you want a picture.
Cottonwoods are dioecious, meaning there are male trees and there are female trees. The scientific name for these beautiful trees is Populus deltoids wislizenii and they live 70-100 years but they have the potential to live 200-400 years.
I love the work of Ansel Adams, such simplicity and this is my version.

About Rebecca Herranen

Rebecca Herranen

In a world filled with constant noise & distractions, I find solace in the simple things in life & the unspoiled beauty of nature. A way to connect with the Earth and find inner peace. I hope to leave behind a legacy of my love for nature through my photography, hoping to inspire others to find their own sense of solitude in the beauty of the world that surrounds them. Through my art, I invite you to slow down, breathe in the simple beauty and recognize the deep sense of tranquility that the natural world offers. This is your invitation to make those connections, and in doing so find a deeper sense of peace & purpose in life. My Website I work with my husband Timo, traveling and photographing our journey along the way....
