Description
That Dam in Northern California holds back the Sacramento River and was completed in 1945. Today it is the boundry of Lake Shasta in the beautiful Cascades.
As we walked this corridor inside the dam I was fascinated by the statistics of the dam. Standing at the far end of the 300 foot tunnel/walkway, you could simply whisper and be heard at the other end. At it's thickest point the dam is 543' thick. So, in this hallway there was over 250 feet of concrete on either side of us.
There are 15 million tons of concrete, creating 16900 concreate blocks. Most of those blocks were 50' by 5'. The dam itself is so heavy that it holds itself in place,
It is awe inspiring and worth the visit if you are in the area
