Description
It's somewhat true, the Florida Everglades can be fraught with danger. There are alligators in nearly every body of water in Florida, not to mention some snakes that you want to avoid too. When we first moved to Florida I was actually sort of terrified to get out there and walk around. I expected there could be gators just waiting on the banks to come out and snatch us as we walked along the trail. Flash forward, I have learned so much and my fear has become a healthy respect.
We walked and walked for miles, getting up early to avoid the heat that could be quite uncomfortable in by late morning even in the winter. Pine Glades in South Florida has a beautiful forest of Longleaf Pines just the other side of the canal leading out to the glades. We had arrived before sunup in hopes of seeing the Sandhill Cranes and their chick. That didn't happen, but we didn't go away disappointed. We got to watch this beautiful sunrise over the everglades that Florida is so famous for.
