The Super Blue Blood Moon of 2018 went down in the record books. I thought the colors of the partial eclipse at this point were just beautiful. The image was captured in the small coastal surf town of San Clemente, California.

It is a Blue Moon because 2 full moons occurred in the same calendar month. Not very common, hence the term "once in a blue moon". Then there was a complete lunar eclipse AND it was super because the moon was as close as it could get to the earth in its orbit. To have all 3 of these events happen at the very same time is very rare.

In case you missed it, now you can enjoy it this phenomenon right in your home. The next time this will happen will be January 31, 2037. Still quite a ways away, but it won't take as long as the one previous to 2018. That took 150 years. Indeed a rare and wonderful event.
