Description
The American White Pelican is a large aquatic water bird with a long neck and a massive bill that expands as they swoop into the water scooping up fish, expanding so large that they can hold very large fish and are then swallowed whole. White pelicans have a great wing span, large bodies, short legs and webbed feet. During mating season they grow a horn of sorts on tope of their bill. They are bright white with black feathers on the ends of their wings that appear during flight.
White pelicans are social and hang in groups especially during breeding season. They spend most of their time near the water, in estuaries, in wetlands, and along the ocean coast.
