Artist's Description

Coyotes get a bad rap, but wow, is this one gorgeous. It was really in the morning in December. We had gotten up well before dawn to watch the Snow Geese and Sandhill Cranes fly into New Mexico. It was 15 degrees, with a windchill of about 6. We had spotted a coyote walking on the ice of the bosque wetlands and then we saw this one coming down the road behind us. It was quite focused on the coyote on the ice, but eventually set his sights on finding something to eat.
Not wanting to frighten him I opened the door just enough to put my camera lens through and hanging nearly upside down I just started clicking. He walked right by me within maybe 6 feet and they on his way.
We saw him maybe 30 mins later stalking some ducks. We didn't stay long, but I doubt he got his breakfast then. He had very little cover to crouch down in although he tried, but the ducks were more then aware of him. Beautiful animal.
