Wood storks are large and hefty wading birds, with their body shaped something like a football with long legs. They have long necks, and long thick bills which make a lot of noise clacking together when squabbling with each other. Their feathers are white but when flying they have black on the wings. The head is bald and the neck is covered with scales, but as you can see it almost looks like pieces of wood stacked on top of each other.
When it comes to breeding and nesting they hang close together in trees out in the middle of ponds. This type of community is called a rookery. They stand about 3 feet tall which is quite a site to behold as they all try to perch upon a single small tree. I've seen as many as 15 pairs on one small tree. Unusual and interesting birds to watch.
In a world filled with constant noise & distractions, I find solace in the simple things in life & the unspoiled beauty of nature. A way to connect with the Earth and find inner peace. I hope to leave behind a legacy of my love for nature through my photography, hoping to inspire others to find their own sense of solitude in the beauty of the world that surrounds them. Through my art, I invite you to slow down, breathe in the simple beauty and recognize the deep sense of tranquility that the natural world offers. This is your invitation to make those connections, and in doing so find a deeper sense of peace & purpose in life. My Website I work with my husband Timo, traveling and photographing our journey along the way....

Thanks Jennie, this handsome guy was captured at a wildlife reserve called Wakodahatche in South Florida. They nest there, quite a sight to see
