Beautiful image. So happy that they were able to rebuild after the war. My dad was captured by the Germans outside Normandy. I'm sure he saw a lot of destruction, but I hope he was able to capture glimpses of church spires reaching to the sky. He did go on to survive 11 months as a POW and made it home.

Artist's Description

Caen, France in the Normandy region is a quaint, historic little port city with a big history. This image was taken from the ancient walls of the Château de Caen castle that sits on the hill right in the center of Caen. The castle was built in 1060. Caen is the capital of the Calvados department in the northern part of Normandy.
During the Battle of Normandy in 1944, much of Caen was leveled. Old pictures, show blocks just flattened by the bombs that hit Caen. Much still stands though. An old church built of heavy stone still stands. It's literally visibly crooked but standing. Other buildings throughout town bear the scars of bombs taking out chunks of buildings.
Caen's port opens to the English channel, with Brittan almost directly across that channel. A great little day trip from Caen or visa versa.

In a world filled with constant noise & distractions, I find solace in the simple things in life & the unspoiled beauty of nature. A way to connect with the Earth and find inner peace. I hope to leave behind a legacy of my love for nature through my photography, hoping to inspire others to find their own sense of solitude in the beauty of the world that surrounds them. Through my art, I invite you to slow down, breathe in the simple beauty and recognize the deep sense of tranquility that the natural world offers. This is your invitation to make those connections, and in doing so find a deeper sense of peace & purpose in life.
