Description
This is George who is a full time resident at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands Reserve. George is a massive American Alligator, about 14 feet in length. How would you know that? Not like anyone is going to go out there with a tape measurer. There is a formula that gives a pretty good idea. You measure the distance between the crest of the eye and the tip of the nostrils. The number of inches roughly translates to feet. To give you perspective, George's eye is about 1.5 inches wide.
George keeps a fairly tight routine, making his rounds throughout the reserve. Even the birds know his schedule. Notice the ducks in the background. Wanting to enter the water there, they knew to wait, George would be showing up any moment. They watched closely, all looking into the lagoon where George would appear, right there on that very beach. They were focused and sure enough, right on time, the ducks got more excited and then there he was, moving that massive body up out of the water, across the berm and into the water on the other side where he silently slipped back into the dark water where just submerging a foot would make him invisible from the surface.
