Standing on high on the mountain in the Parque de Pena forest is the colorful Pena Palace or Palacio Nacional da Pena as it is known. A fantastic example of 19th century Romanticism architecture, vibrantly painted terraces, battlements and mythical statues contrasted by the lush green forest. The palace was meticulously restored when the Portuguese nobility were forced to flee in 1910 during the Revolution.
