Description
Some how, if it's all possible I think this Black Vulture is rather handsome, some say they even look dapper. He sat so quietly and let me photograph him.
Vultures are not birds of prey, but rather carrion birds meaning they feed off of the leftovers of other animals meals. Black vultures have a poor sense of smell, I wonder why and I guess that would be a good thing because if he could smell what he was eating, he likely would starve. For this reason they hang out with Turkey Vultures and eat off of their carrion finds. The aren't cut out for killing their own prey, their feet just aren't equipped for that job. They have more chicken feet.
Black vultures are very social and loyal to their family groups. Explains why they are often seen in large groups.
