Description
We both saw a lot of this beautiful lake as teenagers. Mono Lake was just down the hill from the high school both of us attended in Lee Vining.
Mono Lake was much fuller when we were in school and the fascinating tufa formations were few because they were under water. Over the years Southern California has consumed much of the water that runs into the lake lowering the water level. That is not a good thing, but it has revealed more of these beautiful rock formations, known as tufas.
An agreement has been made with the Southern California Water District and over time it is expected with water conservation Mono Lake will be filled once again to its natural level. So go see it, because hopefully, one day these tufa formations will be under water once again.
